I think the majority of us have been there, wondering where that extra 5-10 pounds came from.  Could it have been the Christmas turkey?  The delicious stuffing that grandma makes each year?  No…. it must have been the pies…. Or maybe the cookies and candy.

Let’s stop the questions and get moving.  Have you ever heard that there’s no such thing as “tomorrow”?  Tomorrow never comes, so let’s work on today.

Here’s your first weight loss tool.  Move more, eat less.  This is truly what it boils down to.  Consider getting support.  There are some great systems out there, from Jenny Craig to weight-watchers and more.  But remember, it’s all about moving more and eating less.  So let me give you a simple 5-step solution that will change your life.

Step 1 – workout first thing in the morning. 

  1. drink a tall glass of water to get your metabolism started
  2. 20 min. of any activity that raises your heart rate (walking, dancing, running, biking, etc) – find an activity that you enjoy

Step 2 – wait 1 hour after your workout to eat. 
Step 3 – eat only protein (eggs, protein bar, protein shake)

  1. this forces your body to get it’s energy sources from your fat stores
  2. if you eat carbohydrates, your body will use that for energy instead of your fat

Step 4 -  do not eat anything else until lunch
Step 5 – eat a sensible lunch and dinner, focusing on the largest portion of your plate consisting of vegetables

When you follow these simple 5 steps, your 20 minutes of cardio will burn the calorie equivalent of 60 minutes at night!  So remember… if you skip your morning workout, you will have to triple your evening workout, to get the same effect. 

Turn your New Year’s resolutions into practical goals.  Write your goals down…. and don’t worry about tomorrow.  Get moving today and you’ll make 2008 your best year ever!
